Up here on Champlain, enjoying the cool mountain air, my heart goes out to
all who suffer from the vagaries of these dastardly aircon pumps. This is the
same problem experienced with reefer seawater pumps. Perhaps the
highly-touted paper towel filters would polish the cooling water so it wouldn't harm
these pumps. Seriously, Ron has the answer. Keep the dirt and the jellyfish out
and the pumps will last.

The March pump that failed me within 2 years of operation was the type that
uses raw water tubes to cool the pump's head. There was a Groco filter
before the pump. The pump that look appealing are those driven by Totally
Enclosed Fan Cooled (TEFC) 110V motors coupled to composite, centrifugal
pumps. This modular construction allows either component to be replaced,
should it fail. The ones I've seen are direct drive. This experience was
gained in Chesapeake Bay waters which contain silt and jelly fish.
