karabiner to attach a vessel to a mooring buoy.
It's a huge karabiner with a rated strength of 32,000 pounds. Our boat
weighs 27,000 pounds but the load on the karabiner in a mooring
situation will never even approach that. As to the ground tackle of
the buoys in question, we know how they are anchored-- to a 500 pound
block buried in mud with a 100 pound block as a kellet. They are state
park buoys and are checked and maintained annually. Far larger and
heavier boats than ours moor to them in much higher winds and waves with
no problems.
