I live in Maine and own three moorings. My boat sits on a mooring for
almost six months a year and I've experienced getting on it and off it in
many different conditions. It is honestly a very simple thing to do.
I also just returned from down south and spent the last three nights on
moorings in different locations: Cuttyhunk, MA, Scituate, MA, and Casco
Bay, ME. On two of the three moorings, there was a pennant (bridle in both
cases) already attached. It is a pretty trivial task to pull up to a
mooring with a pennant and pull it up to attach to your boat.
There have been many great suggestions about grabbing a mooring without any
lines already attached. In general, my experience in the northeast is that
this won't be the configuration that you'll come across.

Home, and on a mooring, finally!
