    Ron,

Interesting that Suncor uses a 4:1 breaking strength/WLL ratio, whereas the
standard is 5:1 Also, whereas WASI and ACCO go to some length to back up their
products with descriptions of manufacturing processes, materials, and
standards, Suncor, which appears to be simply a marketing company, says nothing.

In this age of dollar-conscious Internet shoppers, it it easy for us to lose
sight of the fact that more and more distributors will lower themselves to
sell sub-standard products in their pursuit of the almighty buck. Far too many
manufacturers of quality goods have gone out of business at the hands of
    inferior knock-offs.

I sincerely hope that no one experiences broken anchoring tackle due to
saving a few dollars. I for one, have heard too many first-hand tales of broken
stainless anchors, chain hooks, swivels and such that were manufactured in the
Far East. Anchors and associated tackle are no place to save money. I buy the
best gear I can get and keep my deductable!

    Best regards,

You may recall that some of us discussed (months ago) where to find a
*strong* multi-directional anchor swivel. We looked at two-way swivels and
felt that a side-load would damage the anchor (as their catalog descriptions
noted.) Then we looked at the WAASI Ball which rotates 360 degrees and costs
allot of money. Fisheries Supply now has a full assortment available.

It was noted that Suncor made multi-directional swivels, but, at that time,
their working strength did not match the WLL of comparably sized chain.

Now things have changed. Suncor now offers multi-directional SS swivels
whose working loads exceed that of comparably sized chain to include alloy
    and ACCO SL chain.

Still, the discounts at Bosun, a SS specialist firm were all of $6.00
dollars. Well, that's changed too. Hamilton Marine in Maine is offering
significant discounts on these new Suncor swivels and I suggest that those
interested check them out. I've bought one for my aluminum Spade.
