Scott:
May I suggest you consider a harness instead? Inflatable PFDs contemplate
that you *will* go into the water; a harness with properly placed jacklines
will
keep you aboard. The latter is much to be preferred! Inflatable PFDs were
originally developed for people who work on barges, etc; marketing people
greedily
brought them to racing sailors, and they migrated from there. If you are in
a situation where you may go into the water, donning a real PFD is much
better, and safer.
I have found inflatable PFDs waaay too heavy for use underway, especially
when you add the weight of the tether. Either way you go, when you select the
tether, forget the expandable ones, as they will soon expand to full length
permanently!

I am in the market for 2 inflatable type PFD's. I would like to know what
people are using and how happy they are with their choices. I have read a
recent Practical Sailor test report and it seems that the Mustang is the
best all aroung general purpose unit for the money. Also, any good leads on
where to purchase at the best price?
