Hello Folks,
I have a question about our radar on board. We have a Furuno 841 Mark
2 on the flybridge with a repeater down below. Before we left on this
trip the heading signal was missing on the display and would not scan.
I took it to a repair shop and had it looked at.
We have a folding mast and I had pinched the cable slightly and figured
that is what caused the signal to give up. I bought a new cable and
took the unit in to have it tested and repaired. It was determined by
the repair shop that the board had a short in it and the pinched caused
the unit to display the error "hdg sig missing". No problem they
replaced the board in exchange for about five hundred dollars and
proved the radar at the shop , all was fine.
After mounting the radar back on the boat , it worked like it was
suppose .
Sometime during this trip the "hdg sig missing" error has show up
again. At times I have been able to restart the radar and it will
work correctly without any problem. The data from the plotter
(independent unit) will display giving course , knots , etc.
The radar display has also turned off on it own. I turn it back on and
it powers up fine.
Obviously, it would appear to have a loose connection or something. I
have tried to plug and unplug the connectors to the display under the
dash and all seems well.
yesterday the unit gave the "hdg sig missing" error and I was unable to
clear it after a few times so I just turned it off. I do not know if
it feels like working today as we are docked this morning.
We are about a week or so into a trip from Florida to the Chesapeake .
Currently at the Harborgate Marina in South Carolina. Moving North
within the hour.
