I'd have to have a very large boat in order to justify IC. If you only have
one or two crew you could give them a small handheld to carry for a lot less
money than a wired IC.
A significant decrease of engine speed is what's used on Seahorse to bring
the crew to the pilothouse. Surprisingly, that change alone will even wake crew
from a sound sleep. No batteries required!
