We've finally decided to remove what's left of our teak decks. The sundeck
was done by the previous owner. We want to remove the teak decking from the
side decks and foredeck. We plan to take up the teak, fill the screw holes,
sand and paint the decks. We know this is going to be a big job. I have two
questions for the list.
First, the previous owner told me that when he took the teak off the sundeck
he just took a prybar and carefully pried up each teak board. He said most
of the screws just pulled right out as he pried up the board. He said this
approach was much easier and quicker than trying to take out each screw hole
plug and remove the screws. Before I do this is there any reason that I
shouldn't take this approach?
Second, once I've removed the teak decks and cleaned the caulk from the
decks what would you suggest I fill the screw holes with? I've been told I need
to ream each hole out slightly to form a larger area for the filler to adhere
and then fill.
I'll be taking some time off work to do this soon and would like to do it
properly but a quickly and efficiently as possible. Thanks for any advice.
