a buddy just brought his Pacific Mariner 65 up from Lauderdale
to Bay Bridge Marina on the Chesapeake. He said Coinjock was
the cheapest fuel on the entire trip. when he was in Beaufort
he called ahead to make a reservation at Coinjock and they
asked how many boats were in Beaufort heading up. there were
only 6 or 7 boats in Beaufort and when he stopped in Coinjock
there were only 3 boats on the face dock. my buddy said that
he's never seen so little traffic in 7 years of doing the ditch
up and back spring and fall. he believe that fuel costs are
convincing many people to just stay down south instead of paying for
the up and back plus dockage up north. staying the rest of
the season at Bahia Mar would have been a fraction of what
his total costs will be. of course, he has twin CAT3406Es
which turn ancient dinosaurs into greenhouse gases at a mere
50 gallons per hour, but even dividing by a large constant
to adjust for scale, it's bad news....
