I may have stated this before but it is worth repeating....

My friend was using his father's Tollycraft which had electronic engine controls. It was a "kid's cruise" in that there were 4-5 kids on board. They, of course, were minding their own business while we were getting the boat out of the slip. Their "business" included playing chase around the boat. Well the electrical panel is just inside the companionway in the salon and right at the perfect moment, a child brished up against the panel and knocked some DC components off line. One of those components just happened to be whatever circuit the engine controls were on. we were backing into the fairway at the time. Only the Captain realized what was going on but couldn't do anything about it so he just asked that we fend off. By absolute luck, the slip behind us was empty and the boat gently glided/backed perfectly into the slip....Obviously, it could have been a LOT worse.

    Trawler on,
    John
