For some reason, this subject reminds me of an incident reported in the
Knoxville News Sentinel a few years ago. As I recall, a relatively fast
small cruiser with about four people aboard had been anchored for a few
hours on Fort Loudon Lake, which generally has pretty good holding in a
muddy clay bottom. By the time they decided to leave, the operator had
forgotten about the anchor. Without shortening scope, he powered forward at
full throttle to get up on plane. The all-nylon rode stretched but did not
break. The Danforth-style anchor was yanked free and became a guided missile
aimed at the cockpit. If I'm not mistaken, a woman was severely injured. The
incident was described as a "freak accident."

    Mostly lurking thanks,

    Joe
