    Ron,
    I believe what he is saying in that with the 4 cycle he has a wider range of
    speeds where the boat will plane. Using the 2 cycle the boat would only get
    on a plane with the engine wide open.
    I can relate to that from my enduro bike riding days. The 2 strokers would
    pull hills like crazy and run circles around the 4s BUT the rider had to be
    good enough to stay on with the throttle almost wide open. If he ever backed
    off and let the revs drop it was all over. The 2s wouldn't come back while
    with a 4 cycle if you got scared and backed down to mid throttle for a
    couple of seconds in the middle of a climb it kept going, just slower.
    There was no "slower" with a 2 cycle, all (hang on) or nothing (fall over).
