Actually there are other kinds of 2-strokers. Ralph mentioned Burmeister &
    Wain, Pilstick and MAK.
    B & W : All of B & W engines were 2-strokers. Very few were made as "Double
action two strokers". Their correct desciption was Single action, single top
exhaust valve, turbo charged crosshead trunk engine.

    Pilstick I know nothing about.

MAK Was never, to my knowledge, used in a Danish merchantman.

Sulzer was used a lot. And that was a double action 2-stroker. Compresion at
both ends of the stroke. They were complicated and maintenance heavy.

B & W was very simple and very reliable and huge in size, but the torque was
    incredible.
They did make a couple of engines in the double action class, but they were
not very successful. They were in the 7000 hp range.

Just a little walk down memory lane.........now back to Volvos and Lehmans!

    Hans
