all dead? at the same time? it's a little odd isn't it? have they been
using a lot of water? charger connected 24/7 ?
have you considered golf cart batteries? that's what a previous owner used
on my boat and when I it last year, the Exide batteries were 4 years old,
always connected to the charger (older 3 stage promariner). One bank got
weak a few months ago and I replaced it with the same batteries... the other
one went last week and I'm replacing it this week.
Hatteras used a 32v system so I have 4 Exide 4800 8volt batteries which
give plenty of juice to crank the DD 8V71. the nice thing about these
bateries is their size, easy to lift in and out, and the price... $80 a
piece... $320 per bank. I have 2 banks for the mains with a selector to use
either for house duties, plus a separate 12v battery for the 18kw norpro
and another 12v (g27) with a charger to run the electronics and 12v
accessories.
I also installed a timer to run the charger 8 hours a day, hoping to extend
battery life and reduce water usage, but 4 1/2 years isn't bad for batteries
in south FL. and at $ 300 a bank, it's not a huge deal... I get them from a
local gold cart place...
