Bob- Well, did you get the 56'? How long do you have to get it moved out of
    its current location?

Subject: T&T: Auctions (was Water in transmission)

In my case a bid on the Hartman Palmer is strictly business. If I get the
boat at auction, I will fix it up and enjoy it. However it is being looked
at only as a business deal. I don't have to have the boat. I know that
there is one buyer flying in, who does not look at it that way--and that may
esculate the price rapidly. Also not all surveyors are equal--and if he
chose a surveyor who does not see all of the costs involved, he may be
    mislead.

I factor in the cost of complete rebuild of both engines, the transmissions,
repaint the boat with LP, any fiberglass work, I will do the wood work--and
have most of the pieces for templets, the replacement of motors and systems
which may have water damage (the water was about 12" high in the boat's
lowest decks and new electronids. My bid level is set so that if I cannot
do all of the above and make a profit, the boat will go to someone else.

I agree that most people overpay at the auction. There will be at least a
dozen of "our group" at the auction--and we tend to keep each other honest.
The name brands tend be over bought. The dreamers also over pay. There are
a number of these boats which need a decent funeral--but they will live on
in some dreamer's back yard. I would not consider a boat which I could not
    "drive away"---

Incidently my local transmission expert thinks that most likely the
transmissions will be OK. If I get the boat, I will do the tranny (and re
do the mains) oil flush several times and then every 20 to 50 hours
    (depending on
usaege) do oil analysis. If I see a pattern of wear/corrosion, I will then
pull the transmissions have them rebuilt.

    Regards,

    Bob Austin
