Actually I did own a bunch of shares. I bought them not because I though WM
was raping the public, but because, back in the mid to late 90's WM was
competitive and seemed to be the best bet going. Unfortunately they started
raising their prices, did the horrible pre-packaged fasteners experiment,
and other such things. Bottom line was "The Street" certainly didn't think
much of WM from a business perspective. After several years of the stock
sitting there doing nothing I dumped it all. The money put in a regular
savings account would have performed better. It's interesting to see that
their stock is still just about where I bought and sold it at 5 years ago,
but thankfully I missed the tank of 2001.
