    Hi George.
I keep my boat in Clear Lake. A year before I bought the boat in New York,
the bottom was sanded down to gelcoat and 2 coats of Interlux epoxy barrier
coat and 4 coats of Interlux Micron Extra (first coat red, 3 coats blue)
were applied. This spring we hauled and repainted and I couldn't believe how
good the paint still was. The only places the red was showing through was
where I had hit something and some right at the water line. I thought 4
years was way to long to go between bottom paints, but was very pleased to
see it in that good of shape. By the way, the boat has had 1100 engine hours
and 8,000 miles under her keel in this 4 year time period. I never have to
scrub the bottom and have never had any growth problems. I just dive under
every 3 to 6 months to check zincs and look the bottom over. I think the
secret to keeping the bottom clean in South Texas is run your boat!

All that being said, I do think that most folks down there do use a hard
paint. Whatever you use, it might be worth your while to pay the yard the
difference to use a top of the line paint, in place of the lower price stuff
they are very likely to put on since it is at their expense. A lot of the
cost of a bottom job is labor and haul out, so I say to use the best paint
you can. I also strongly reccomend the epoxy barrier coat. That should help
    some with the blister problem.

By the way, what type / brand of boat is this and where in Galveston are you
going to be? Seems as if I've seen a boat running around down there with
that name, but don't remember what kind of boat it was.
