"...When we hit the hull with a power wash, the coating came off...."
(Bottom) paint may adhere poorly for a number of reasons,
(1) original surface wax not removed,
(2) boat wet when painted
(3) boat dirty when painted (old bottom growth, lots sanding dust)
(4) paint incompatable with prior coat
(5) two incompatable paints mixed together
(6) adverse weather at painting...too cold, moist, rained immediately, etc
(7) faulty paint from manufacturer
(8) launched immediately aftter painting
In general, today's paints are excellent and most problems are a result of
faulty preparation by local workers, I'd guess #2, #3 or #4.
