Ultima SR is what we use on our boat, and it is not a hard or modified hard
paint. Ultima SR is the slime resistant (hence the "SR") version of
ACP-50, which is Pettit's ablative (sloughing) bottom paint. So while you
can put Ultima SR (or ACP-50) on top of a hard epoxy or otherwise
non-sloughing paint, you cannot put a hard paint on top of Ultima SR.
Trinidad is one of Pettit's hard bottom paints as Bob points out.
On our boat in our environment (PNW), one coat of Ultima SR plus a second
coat along the waterline, forefoot, and on the rudders is good for about
two years. We have been using Pettit's ablative paint (ACP-50 for the
first three years, Ultima SR since then) on our boat since we acquired it
and have been extremely pleased with it. We use the boat year round, so
the paint is getting worn away at a reasonable rate and is exposing the
anti-fouling compounds on a consistent basis. I don't know how this paint
would do on a boat that didn't move much.
