While browsing at Home Depot I spotted a tiny genset small enough to fit in one
hand and capable of pumping out 50 amps DC or 900 watts AC but not both at the
same time.
It was made by Coleman and consisted of a tiny chainsaw motor of arounbd 2 HP
bolted to a 50 amp automotive alternator. Somewhere inside was a 900 Watt
inverter. Total weight was well under 10 lbs. Maybe only 5 lb.
At a constant load this would not be that noisy. Plus it really is small enough
to fit in a bread box.
