Thanks, Terry.
I have used my Linksys for a couple of years, and will take it with me when I
go this year. I haven't been to the Bahamas yet - I don't care much for
skinny water! But in the Eastern Caribbean, wi-fi hotspots have begun to
spring up,
at least in the Windwards. One of my favourite anchorages, Admiralty Bay, in
Bequia, has a place with wi-fi. It's in Port Elizabeth, and called Surf 'n
Send. It's on the first floor of the Gingerbread restaurant. Last year,
speeds
were around half a meg, and the owner threatened to improve it by this coming
dry season. But, I doubt I'd be able to use it from the boat, which is almost
a
mile offshore. (I like to anchor in deep water (70'). Keeps the charter boats
away!)

Have you thought about WiFi? Jeffrey Siegel has written about his success
in finding WiFi access points in the Bahamas. Maybe there are some where
you're going. A high-output WiFi card and desktop antenna can be gotten for
$100 or so. A more powerful antenna for ~$100 more. It's worth a shot.
