    I think if you make sure an automotive hose is stiff enough to resist
    partially collapsing under the pull of the raw water pump there would be
    no reason not to use it. I change the coolant hoses on our vehicles
    when they need changing. Some of them take hoses that I believe would
    hold up fine if used in the raw water intake system of a boat. Others,
    like the top hose in our Range Rover, is quite soft even when new. I
    can squish it a fair amount under moderate finger pressure. So this
    hose would probably not work well in the suction side of a raw water
    cooling system. I'm guessing it's just a matter of common sense. And
    periodic inspections when the boat is underway, which is something all
    of us should be doing anyway.
