    Phil, the hose in this discussion is the one that leads from the
    seacock/strainer to the raw water pump, right?
    The hose, in a car, that goes from the bottom of your radiatior to the water
    pump, is a functional duplicate of the boat hose.
    Both need to resist suction. That hose on a car is not under pressure, and I
    have seen a number of hoses in that usage collapse.
