Here is the info on using the Nokia 3589i with the Sony Clie TJ-25 to dial
into your local or not so local ISP.
    The init string is "AT+crm=0;+cso=12"
To use the phone with the verizon 1xRTT network change the CRM=1 and the
cso=33. This sets up the mode and the service. The service being the normal
telephone network or in verizon's case their packet system "1xRTT".

To access your ISP you will need your user id and password. You enter them
in the network page of your preferences utility, in the system group.

    The connection type is "PPP".
    The Idle timeout is: never
    The Query DNS is: checked.
The IP address Automatic is: checked.

The script page is not necessarily the way described here, but does work
    for my ISP.
Put the init string in as above.
Add a "Send CR" below it.
Then a "send ATD" followed with the phone number like: "ATD8005551212".
    Then a "send CR"
    Then a "Wait for: CONNECT".
The last entry will be an "end" which occurs automatically.

With your cables hooked, you should be able to dial into your ISP.
Make sure all of this works and that you are online.

THEN and only then you can you bring up your email program. I am using
Eudora Palm v2.1. If you get the Eurdora Suite, you will also have Web Access.
The setup for Eudora is pretty easy, you just enter the normal dialup POP
mail and SMTP server names, your email user name and password, which may be
the same as but could be different from your system login stuff, if you
have more than one mail box.

I have tested getting web pages, sending and receiving email. It is all
    working, just fine.
Have not tested this when in roaming mode. just while on Verizon's home
    network.

One Note: dialing into your ISP directly is a lot slower (about 10k baud)
instead of using the 1xRTT network which appears to be about 100K baud.
This dialup into the ISP is my backup for when I can't use the Verizon
    1xRTT network.

There you have it. Nearly 5 years of buying and tinkering with various
cards, phones, cables, breakout boxes, searching the internet, and
generally going insane. All just to get onto the Internet when offshore of
    the US West coast, grrrrreat!

I trust some of you may get a chance to put this to use. I hear a knock at
the door. The place is surrounded by little men in white coats and carrying
nets. They have come to take me away and separate me from my toys. Looks
like I won't get a chance to try this out for real after all. And, just
when I had the solution in my grasp. It's just not fair, byeee.

    Regards,
    Mike
