    (SNIP) By the time the nylon snubber lines breaks the chain will be almost
    completely loaded, minus the strength of the snubber line.

    Not in my case. I use a 3/8 snubber for a 49,000 lb boat and I always put a
    pretty hefty catenary between the snubber and the chain lock on my windlass
    to act as a kellet. I may have to rethink this practice in heavy winds and
    seas. Thanks for the wake-up call...
