    Ron, I use the West Marine chain grabber http://tinyurl.com/3ejuy. I don't
    know what it's breaking strength is, but it looks like the chain or shackles
    would probably break first. I have 3/8" BBB all chain rode, and I use 1/2"
    laid nylon for the snubber lines.

    If you are using a nylon rode, I would go down one size for the snubber
    lines, maybe even a couple, because you want them to be stretchy and take
    the shock off the rode. If you're in bad conditions, I'd make the snubbers
    longer. If you're REALLY worried, make up a secondary snubber out of heavier
    nylon and attach it so that if the primary ones break, it'll take up the
    job. However, I've got to think that if you're in those conditions, you've
    got bigger things to worry about.
