Sorry, this just doesn't get by my "sniff test"... All cruisers, by
definition are NOT on persistent connections (DSL,Cable), therefore only a
random TCP-IP address hit would expose the machine. Most cruisers are
purposeful surfers, googling something of value, doing financial
transactions on HTTPS connections, or checking out weather. We're not out
on black hat cracker sites looking for trouble. >>
Phil,
Don't shoot the messenger. I only reported the eWeek findings. eWeek is the
bible of corporate IT gurus and when it sings, Microsoft dances. Incidentally,
I use Macs, running OS 9.2 and OS 10.3 and haven't seen a virus in years. Not
that they are immune but virus writers largely ignore them both because of the
difficulty of cracking the OS and the small size of the market. And I work in
a university setting where virus writing is a prerequisite for passing
Computer Science 101. On the other hand the address list for T&T has been harvested
and used to send messages containing some evil stuff. You don't have to be
permanently connected to be infected. Just download attachments from people you
know.
Oh yes, some decent navigation programs are available for the Mac.
