    Polyurethane paints were developed by or for the Navy to protect carrier
    aircraft. Of course, now they are painted for additional reasons, but
    Awlgrip, etc. started out from a public domain formula. I haven't a clue how
    aircraft aluminum differs from that used for marine applications, but the
    original goal was to prevent corrosion. Remember when some Navy aircraft
    were painted white? BTW, some still are.
