I think there is some confusion on registering with the state, and
having to display the states numbers. As someone has stated before, in
Maryland if you haven't had your vessel documented yet or are going
through the process you must display the numbers until you are
documented. There is a penalty that would be assessed if you didn't
pay the tax's within the prescribed 30 days after the purchase. So,
what we did is get the boat registered through the state and are
hanging our numbers on the side of our vessel with appropriate sticker
that shows we paid our tax's. After we get our documentation though I
can take down the numbers and only have to display the Md sticker for
documented vessel on the side of the boat(I guess I could put it on the
window). This is what I've gathered so far from talking to my friendly
DNR officer who lives right at the end of my dock. As far as what
other paperwork I need to carry, I received a email telling me that
will be explained when I finally get my package.
