Reply: John, I'm surprised that any state would require you to register your boat with the state pending the issuance of the Coast Guard documentation. I would have thought that the Coast Guard Documentation application would suffice as intent to document. That's not to say the state would expect you to do whatever they require for a documented boat, such as pay taxes. So what does the sate expect you to do with the state registration when your documentation arrives? You can't be state registered and Coast Guard documented at the same time. Well, at least you can't display state registration numbers on a documeneted boat.
