Thanks for the head up on the study of GPS EPIRB and the failure rate of the
McMurdo Precision EPIRB which I happen to have aboard INSPIRATION. I went to
their web site and found that in addition to the recall of the FastFind Plus
units, they are doing an upgrade of the Precision units as well. I called
800-576-2605, spoke with Robert who was unable to find me or my unit in their
registry (not a good sign) but said he would send to me a recall kit for my
unit.
I got their number from the news release at the following site:
http://www.mcmurdo.co.uk/?Menu=79&Page=/Contents/ListNews.asp&ID=10047
It seems that while McMurdo denies there is an issue and provides their
evidence to refute the adverse report, however they are taking actions that
suggest that there is a problem with the units getting a GPS fix.
Thanks again to the list for bringing this to our collective attention.
