Martin, I certainly agree with you on investing in dying technology. The 6340i is/was an interim piece that Cingular had developed as they were converting their TDMA nework to GSM, and it is built on the 6360 chassis. It works on both networks, though the "handoff" when you went from one type of tower to another can be clumsy leading to dropped calls. I used one myself for most of last year, as Cingular was in transition here in Texas. Worked just fine until it went, literally, to Davey Jones' locker. That's when I switched to GSM.
