Paul the USCG inspection schedule for Inspected vessels, is from
experience and failures of liferafts--and the guidelines SHOULD apply to
recreational vessels as well as inspected vessels. These are
    international guidelines
    [PaulC says:]
agreed. That's why I thanked you in my last email, I wasn't being
facetious. And again, this illustrates my earlier point. I THOUGHT I
was being conscientious, turns out I was fooling myself and I need to
    1) get rid of the life raft or;
    2) get it inspected at the proper interval so that I can depend on it.
There is no option 3 which says "well, just keep it around in case you
need it, if it deploys fine, if it doesn't, then its like its not
    there."
I believe I will take Bobs (and others) information to heart and
probably have the life raft removed. Inspection EVERY YEAR? Doh, to much
hassle, and without that inspection I cant depend on it, so out it goes.
When in doubt, throw it out.

Just to kill this dam wifi thread once and for all: everyone using wifi
without adequate security is fooling themselves as well. They think that
its "hard to sniff packets" or "my data is not important". All right,
that's generally true, but not always. Its easy to sniff packets, and
you will send data that you want secure. My life raft is never used. (It
came with the boat, that's why its so oversized by the way). So why
inspect it? I don't use it, never have, why inspect it? Both are flawed
    thought processes.

Anyway, whatever. I am a network engineer, have been for 20+ years. I am
telling you guys, secure your wifi. Period. Yup, it costs up to
    $8/month. That's .008 boat units I believe.
Do it or not. Its your data, its your call.
