I would add only one thought to your fine assessment of the situation.
Years ago, I grew weary of such sayings as "A boat is a hole in the water
into which you throw money." And I wonder why some boat owners display such
sayings on their boats.
No, you can't boat for free. But neither can you golf, raise horses, restore
old cars, go to Vegas, collect antiques, travel to Europe or follow any of
many other such pursuits for free. So I don't understand why boats tend to be
singled out as representing the ultimate in the squaundering of money.
Boats, as you explain so well, have redeeming values some of which are the
very essence of life and living. Many, if not most, everyone on this list have
already discovered that.
As I have often told others, Joanie and I could have bought one of the best
houses in town for what we paid for our new boat three years ago. But then,
all we would have had is one of the best houses in town.
