You are correct, sir, but lots of folks make boats with balsa cored hulls.
Cruisers, Inc. does this. Carver did as well, but a few years ago switched
to solid fiberglass below the waterline and balsa coring above. Lots of
speedboats use the balsa to reduce weight. At least the foam coring doesn't
rot...
