One evening in Trinidad I was liming on the dock at CrewsInn when an
acquaintence strolled by, said "goodnight" and disappeared into the darkness. Soon, I
heard a faint splash and investigated to find him struggling and submerging
between finger pier and his boat. I lept aboard and grabbed the swim ladder,
but, because of its design, it could not be rigged due to insufficient space
between dock and boat! We got a line around the guy (275 lb!) which kept him
afloat while I took the ladder to the other side, where there turned out to be no
provision to rig a ladder! Fortunately, a fellow came by in a dinghy and towed
the victim to a nearby dock ladder. I had never considered this situation
before. Just thought I'd share it, FWIW.

Although this thread started about insurance survey and swim ladders--there
is a very serious side which is being able to pick up a person who has fallen
    overboard under Way.
