I have the 72 lb (75lb?) Supermax on a 42 ft Albin Sundeck. Boat weighs,
according to the Travelift that we used this spring, 42,000 lbs with full
water and fuel tanks. Lots of windage as I have full enclosure on the
flybridge and Sundeck. When I bought the anchor, Andy told me the same thing
that I was getting too big of an anchor and should get the next size down,
seems like it was 55lbs or so. I had drug my old 44 lb anchors (Bruce and
Danforth) through so much mud that I wanted something that I didn't have to
worry about. I talked to Mark Rickter and he also has the bigger one on
Pooh, and she weighs less than my boat and has much less windage, so I stuck
with the larger Supermax. I also have it set in the "soft mud" setting.

The area that I have been and used it so far has been from Port Aransas to
Beumont Texas, pretty much all mud of some sort. Some clay and a little sand
every once in a while. I swear I don't think that this anchor had drug 5
feet total in all the anchoring I've done the last year. It seems that
wherever it hits the bottom, it sticks! I've also swung aroung 180 degrees
in some pretty stout wind, and still never noticed any drag whatsoever. One
weekend we had 5 boats weighing a total of over 150,000 lbs anchored for 2
days, swung 180 degrees in the night, and still didn't drag a bit. We
probably had at least 20 knott winds. The only problem, as I think it was
David that said, was getting the darn thing backup. I've found that taking
all the slack out of the rode, (all nylon by the way, no chain) and powering
over it will snatch it up fairly easy. Then you just have to get the cubic
yard of mud off on the thing. I bought a small spade camping size shovel to
keep on board just for that. A little washdown, and your good to go!

I wouldn't use anything else in this mud now.
