T&T: Swim Platform Finish

Some may recall that I few weeks ago I inquired about a source for a new
swim platform for our Roughwater 41.
Several of you encouraged me to attempt to repair the old one or build a new
    one.
Thanks for that encouragement. I believe it will save us several BUs.
Gwen and I removed it from the boat a couple of weeks ago. Not the easiest
of jobs, what with it being in the water and about 6 of the nuts frozen on
    the bolts but doable.
We got it home and after some cleaning found it to be much better than we
    thought.
It now has all the old varnish off, bad spots repaired and about 75% sanded.
Looks pretty good if I do say so!
Our question now is, "Should we put some finish back on or leave it au
    natural?"
Gwen liked the varnished look but it will be pretty slick when a new finish
is back on. (We use the platform a lot.)
Will the teak stand up well without a finish? What should we do to it if we
    don't varnish?
    Thanks,
    Bill & Gwen Cooke
