Terry,
I was looking for one of those weights and found a davit dealer at a boat
show that would sell me one for around $500 which was a lot more than I
want to spend for a weight. I ended up buying a lead downrigger weight in
a fishing supply store for a few bucks. I was going to drill a hole through
it to thread the davit cable but it had a small wire loop imbedded on one
end so I just attached it to the end of the cable with some s/s wire. Not
as fancy as a chrome cylinder but a few hundred dollars cheaper and it does
the job.

Does anyone have a source for those nice chromed cylinders of heavy metal
that are used to keep tension on dinghy davit cables
