There we have it. Let's put this experiment to bed! I manage a number of
lists as well, and occasionally allow deviation from standard policy to see
what will happen. I believe it is important to treat our list managers
with respect and well thought out responses when we disagree with a
policy. Count to 30 before typeing that off list response to a list
manager. These guys walk a fine line. Every action, or lack of action on
their part creates posts private and public and most don't compliment the
manager. On a large list in particular the managers never seem to get it
right, simply because their are hundreds of listees that know something
should have been handled differently. We have a fairly good sized company,
and my wife handles the yearly company outings. It used to be done by vote
(where to go what to do) and the outing kept getting pushed back because a
decision could not be made. Now she decides what the outing will be and
she informs the team. Some grumble, some are happy, some get
peeved. Point is, it is impossible to get a large group to agree on
anything, and the decision maker usually gets flogged irregardless of the
decision.
Lets be sure we don't flog our list managers and be as supportive as we
can. After all, this is a good list and nobody is getting rich off it!
