    Gary:
I am sure you are right about the impeller blades - however without
cutting a hole in aft stateroom forward wall (which I am considering) or
removing the generator I frankly don't see how to get at the heat
exchanger! It is right at the back and the unit is in a sound box. Maybe
I am missing some Hatteras secret for this model - but I am otherwise
    baffled.

I have slotted 8mm hex heads but I was considering replacing them with
screw knurled caps like my SpeedSeals (unfortunately they don't make a
SpeedSeal for that pump) or better quality hex heads.

    Ron,

Odds are very good that the impeller blades are in the heat exchanger.
I consider it SOP to dismantle the raw water cooling system if any
impeller blades are missing and have generally found all the pieces.
That is my penalty for waiting too long to change impellers. As for the
cover plate on my Jabsco pumps, I replaced the slotted head screws with
SS socket head cap screws (found with google search) and now use an
    allen wrench.
