Buy 2 golfcart batteries and put them in the forepeak under the windlass.
You can then use about #4 wire. Rig the breaker there too... Then take your
meaningful other person out to dinner with the money you saved on cable...

Subject: T&T: RE: 50 mm wire?
-----Original Message-----
I am installing a Lofrans Tigress windlass, made in Italy. The installation
manual specifies "50 mm" wire...anyone know what size that translates into
in U. S. wire...1.0...one gauge? Thank you. (Windlass has a 1200 watt
motor, about 21 feet from the batteries, they specify a 100 amp breaker.)

50 mm translates into approximately 2 inches. That is one hefty wire! I'm
not sure of the comparable gauge - Arild will probably know off the top of
his head. However, assuming a flat 12 volts at the source, there doesn't
seem to be much room in the recommended breaker size to accommodate any drop
in voltage below 12V.
Good luck.
