T&T: RE: Bahamas Bound

The major jumping off points for the Bahamas are Pam Beach through the
Keys. Here at Key Biscayne we often find a dozen boats lingering around
for a weather window. The type of boats are all over the map from small
    sailboats to larger trawlers.

The summer weather is fairly predictable though tropical weather can be
significantly different than mid latitude weather. Right now we are in
a tropical wave pattern that is bringing rain, wind and thunderstorms.
It may last for several weeks before breaking up. If you are a fast boat
you can leave early AM and make it across before the afternoon
    instabilities set in.
In winter you have to wait between the fronts. Conditions with winds
with a N component should avoided because the waves can easily get to
    8-12' and very short.

Your post seems to indicate so trepidation in undertaking the trip. We
have never cruised with another boat. If you are worried about
breakdowns, help is usually available though not as prompt as you may
desire. Crossing the Gulf Stream is the most daunting task and you may
get a buddy to cross the stream with you. After that the choices of
where to go and how fast makes it difficult to match with just anyone.

The guide books are quite good for all of the Bahamas and give rather
complete advice for preparations and things to be careful of. The
biggest factor is your draft. Less than 4' and you should have no
problems; over 6' will limit your travels significantly.

If you need any advice you can contact me on or off the loop

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< So how to you meet up with people who are going to
    the Bahamas so that
you have someone to cruise with? How would I know they know what they
are doing? How do I know when the weather is right? My experience
listening to the weather radio is that I don't always get what they
    predict.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
