Ahoy!
As many of you know, Samurai had an outage about three weeks ago which
was fixed very quickly (95% in about 12 to 16 hours and 100% in 48
hours). Other than that there has never been a posting delay or
refusal, other than the intentional ones, in the list's history.
To get more specific about the question at hand: There are a number of
possible explanations for a post being delayed or not showing up at
all.
1. Your ISP may be experiencing delays on outgoing mail. Some ISP's
will notify their customers about such a problem but most don't.
2. There could be a glitch at Samurai but, as I said above this is
vanishingly rare.
3. Your message could have been "Held for moderator approval" due to
one of the many filters that are in place to help keep inappropriate
postings at bay.
4. Your message may have inadvertently been sent from an address other
than your subscribed address(s).
<<< In the case of #3 or #4 you will be notified of what happened and
how to fix it. Some of these notifications are done by the list
software and are sent almost instantly. Others are sent by me
personally and are usually in your mailbox within a few hours (OTOH:
Keep in mind that I do have to work and sleep).
5. If you send your message to the old TWL address it will disappear
without remedy. The correct address for posting a message to Trawlers
& Trawlering is:
6. Your ISP may be experiencing delays on incoming mail or your own
mailbox may be full. FWIW: This is, by far, the most common reason
behind perceived problems with T&T traffic. Take a look at the
Trawlers & Trawlering Archive at
http://lists.samurai.com/pipermail/trawlers-and-trawlering/ to see if
your message is included. If your message is there then your ISP is
delaying or refusing your incoming mail. If it is not in the archive
then you'll want to look into the other possibilities.
