I have used flopper stoppers for over 40 years. On the West Coast they are
almost essential in many anchorages. The most effective are the Magna--but
the ones I had were Stainless Steel, not Alumium. I also have fexternal rame
type ones, with leaves which hinged on the edges and met in the center. There
were also ones with a X slit plastic diaprhagm damper--but this did not work
as well.
I have tried the orange Davis cones--inverted hats etc on several occasions.
They were far inferior to the Magna or the frame type of flopper stoppers.
All of these have to be used on a short pole to be effective. There are
people who think that the organge cones work--but in my experience in rough
conditions they are of little value.
