This brings up one of the problems with surveyors. Sometimes they report
things that are at their whim, but not supported by any standard OR
insurance company. They write them up on the survey, then the insurance just
    says "fix it".

Case in point, correct me if I'm wrong. When my boat was surveyed, I had
soft vinyl tubing for the "sight glasses". The surveyor wrote something
like, "while the use of vinyl tubing is acceptable for diesel fuel sight
tubes, it is recommended that they be replaced by polycarbonate tubing." The
insurance company just went along with his recommendations, and I had to
replace them as he stated. PITA! So why did I have to replace them? Not a
requirement, just something he wrote up.

There was another about my wing doors on the Krogen not closing and locking
properly. Picture these doors... you can jump on the boat in front of them
or behind them. Thank goodness Al Golden understood on these... I did fix
them, but it doesn't make a hill of beans whether they're closed or not.

Some of the surveyors don't really understand or take the time to put things
in categories like "affects safety and operability of the vessel" and "nice
to have". However, once they write it up....

Oh yea, this guy was a certified member of NAMS.
