They built a nest on top of the engine block of an old car of mine, while I
was using the motorcycle for primary transportation. What a mess!
Are the ants very, very tiny and running about real fast? If so, they are
sugar ants, and will need a bait designed for them. I can't give you any
names (can't remember) but one type that works comes in little cans that you
break the holes open in the sides.
Other ants eat fatty stuff / protein and need their own baits. This is the
most common type of poison you find. I'd suggest killing one of the
critters, and taking it down to an OLD hardware or feed store and those guys
will know what you need and probably have it.
I had them try to start on my boat once, and I used the "spray the lines"
trick that Peggie mentioned. I've found that Raid Max lasts longer than
anything else I've found. If you spray it indoors, it'll kill anything that
touches it for about three months. Obviously shorter life outside, but give
it a shot. (no pun intended!)
