    Jeffrey,

We are from New Bern, NC., and keep the boat in the water behind our
house. We have lived there for 5 winters and the only winterizing that
I have done is to use a small, electric ceramic heater under the galley
sink. The heater has a thermostat has a setting such that it doesn't
turn on unless the temperature approaches freezing (400, I think).
Winters in New Bern are generally mild and, while the temperature will
get below freezing, it doesn't stay cold for long. We have never seen
more than just a skim of ice on the water (we are in fresh, not
brackish) and the 2-3 times I've seen that it has been gone by noon or
so. So long as the water doesn't freeze, anything below the waterline
    is pretty safe.
