I had been working awhile back on installing one of those "whole house"
water filters between my FW tanks and the pump. I just couldn't get rid of
that "fiberglass" taste, even after multiple scrubbings, cleanings, and
bleachings. I installed the filter, a Culligan model (same as Sears and a
lot of others). However the only cartridge that would work was a sediment
filter. The "undersink" carbon cartridges proved too restrictive for the
pump and the flow I needed.
I finally found one that works. It's a Pentek NCP-10. It's a
carbon-impregnated polyester filter cartridge, rated to 10 microns, and does
an excellent job at making the water much nicer out of the tanks. You can
find them at: http://www.watercenterfilters.com/index.tpl along with a lot
of other filter and filtration equipment. They're about $10 each. No idea on
lifespan yet... will try to report back later how long they will last.
