    Whether the navigation sysem is integrated or not, it requires redundancy.

    Lately I have been delving into the ABS ( American Bureau of Shipping )
    standards.
    You would not believe the amount of duplication and redundancy of
    functions is required for all ships systems including al bridge and
    navigation equipment.

    Integration can also mean having two screens each capabl;e of displaying
    identical or different data.
    In normal mode each scren is used seperately but if one fails then the other
    screen is used for the mosot essential display mode.

    The redundancy included dual data paths and of course data processor
    Unfortunately, most recreational products are not designed to provide this
    sort of redundancy.
